Rapporté par Nafi' : 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar avait l’habitude de dire : « Quand les musulmans sont arrivés à Médine, ils se rassemblaient et essayaient de déterminer l’heure de la prière, mais personne ne faisait l’appel à la prière. Un jour, ils en ont parlé ; certains ont dit : “Utilisons une cloche comme le font les chrétiens” ; d’autres ont dit : “Non, un cor comme les juifs.” 'Umar, رضي الله عنه, a dit : “Pourquoi ne pas envoyer quelqu’un annoncer l’heure de la prière ?” Le Messager d’Allah (ﷺ) a dit : “Ô Bilal, lève-toi et fais l’appel à la prière.” »

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، وَإِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ، قَالَ قَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَنِي نَافِعٌ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ كَانَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ حِينَ قَدِمُوا الْمَدِينَةَ يَجْتَمِعُونَ فَيَتَحَيَّنُونَ الصَّلاَةَ وَلَيْسَ يُنَادِي بِهَا أَحَدٌ فَتَكَلَّمُوا يَوْمًا فِي ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمُ اتَّخِذُوا نَاقُوسًا مِثْلَ نَاقُوسِ النَّصَارَى . وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ بَلْ قَرْنًا مِثْلَ قَرْنِ الْيَهُودِ . فَقَالَ عُمَرُ رضى الله عنه أَوَلاَ تَبْعَثُونَ رَجُلاً يُنَادِي بِالصَّلاَةِ . فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " يَا بِلاَلُ قُمْ فَنَادِ بِالصَّلاَةِ " .

Nafi' narrated that 'Abdullah bin 'Umar used to say:"When the Muslims arrived in Al-Madinah they used to gather and try to figure out the time for prayer, and no one gave the call to prayer. One day they spoke about that; some of them said: 'Let us use a bell like the Christians do;' others said, 'No, a horn like the Jews have.' 'Umar, may ,Allah be pleased with him, said: 'Why don't you send a man to announce the time of prayer?' The Messenger of Allah (S.A.W) said: 'O Bilal, get up and give the call to prayer

عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہم کہتے ہیں کہ جس وقت مسلمان مدینہ آئے تو وہ جمع ہو کر نماز کے وقت کا اندازہ کرتے تھے، اس وقت کوئی نماز کے لیے اذان نہیں دیتا تھا، تو ایک دن لوگوں نے اس سلسلے میں گفتگو کی، تو کچھ لوگ کہنے لگے: نصاریٰ کے مانند ایک ناقوس بنا لو، اور کچھ لوگ کہنے لگے: بلکہ یہود کے سنکھ کی طرح ایک سنکھ بنا لو، تو اس پر عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: کیا تم کسی شخص کو بھیج نہیں سکتے کہ وہ نماز کے لیے پکار دیا کرے؟ تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: بلال! اٹھو اور نماز کے لیے پکارو ۔
