كتاب الصيام
Rapporté par Saeed bin Abi Hind : Mutarrif, un homme des Banu 'Amir bin Sa'sa'ah, lui a raconté que 'Uthman bin Abi Al-As lui a proposé du lait à boire. Mutarrif a dit : "J’ai entendu le Messager d’Allah dire : 'Le jeûne est un bouclier, comme le bouclier que l’un de vous utilise au combat.'" Abu Hurairah a dit : "Le Messager d’Allah a dit : 'Le jeûne est un bouclier.'" (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ، أَنَّ مُطَرِّفًا، - رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي عَامِرِ بْنِ صَعْصَعَةَ - حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ أَبِي الْعَاصِ دَعَا لَهُ بِلَبَنٍ لِيَسْقِيَهُ فَقَالَ مُطَرِّفٌ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ " الصِّيَامُ جُنَّةٌ كَجُنَّةِ أَحَدِكُمْ مِنَ الْقِتَالِ " .
Traduction anglaise
It was narrated from Saeed bin Abi Hind that Mutarrif a man from Banu 'Amir bin Sa'sa'ah told him that:'Uthman bin Abi Al-As called for milk to be given to him (Mutarrif) to drink. Mutarrif said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah say: 'Fasting is a shield like the shield of any one of you in battle."' Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Fasting is a shield."' (Sahih)

بنی عامر بن صعصعہ کی اولاد میں سے مطرف نامی ایک شخص کہتے ہیں کہ عثمان بن ابی العاص رضی اللہ عنہ نے ان کے لیے دودھ منگوایا تاکہ وہ انہیں پلائیں تو مطرف نے کہا: میں تو روزے سے ہوں۔ تو عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو فرماتے ہوئے سنا ہے: ”روزہ ڈھال ہے جس طرح کہ لڑائی کے موقع پر تم میں سے کسی کے پاس ڈھال ہوتی ہے“۔
