كتاب الزهد
Rapporté par Abu Salamah, d’après ‘Aishah : Il arrivait qu’un mois entier passe sans qu’aucune fumée ne soit vue dans aucune des maisons de la famille de Muhammad (ﷺ). J’ai demandé : « Que mangiez-vous ? » Elle a répondu : « Les deux noirs – les dattes et l’eau. » Mais nous avions des voisins parmi les Ansar, des voisins sincères, qui avaient des brebis et nous envoyaient parfois un peu de leur lait. (Un des rapporteurs) Muhammad a dit : « Et il y avait neuf maisons. »

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ لَقَدْ كَانَ يَأْتِي عَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ الشَّهْرُ مَا يُرَى فِي بَيْتٍ مِنْ بُيُوتِهِ الدُّخَانُ . قُلْتُ فَمَا كَانَ طَعَامُهُمْ قَالَتِ الأَسْوَدَانِ التَّمْرُ وَالْمَاءُ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ لَنَا جِيرَانٌ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ جِيرَانُ صِدْقٍ وَكَانَتْ لَهُمْ رَبَائِبُ فَكَانُوا يَبْعَثُونَ إِلَيْهِ أَلْبَانَهَا . قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ وَكَانُوا تِسْعَةَ أَبْيَاتٍ .
Traduction anglaise
It was narrated from Abu Salamah that ‘Aishah said:“There would come a month when no smoke was seen in any of the households of the family of Muhammad (ﷺ). I said: "What did you eat?" She said: "The two black ones - dates and water." But we had neighbors among the Ansar, sincere neighbors, who had domestic sheep, and they used to send some of their milk to us. ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ کبھی کبھی آل محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم پر پورا مہینہ ایسا گزر جاتا تھا کہ ان کے گھروں میں سے کسی گھر میں دھواں نہ دیکھا جاتا تھا، ابوسلمہ نے پوچھا: پھر وہ کیا کھاتے تھے؟ کہا: دو کالی چیزیں یعنی کھجور اور پانی، البتہ ہمارے کچھ انصاری پڑوسی تھے، جو صحیح معنوں میں پڑوسی تھے، ان کی کچھ پالتو بکریاں تھیں، وہ آپ کو ان کا دودھ بھیج دیا کرتے تھے۔ محمد بن عمرو کہتے ہیں کہ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے نو گھر تھے۔
