Rapporté par Abu Ayyub رضي الله عنه : Abu Imran a dit : Nous sommes partis en expédition depuis Médine dans l’intention d’attaquer Constantinople. AbdurRahman ibn Khalid ibn al-Walid était le chef du groupe. Les Romains restaient derrière les murs de la ville. Un homme a soudainement attaqué l’ennemi. Les gens ont alors dit : « Arrête ! Arrête ! Il n’y a de dieu qu’Allah. Il se met en danger. » Abu Ayyub a dit : « Ce verset a été révélé à notre sujet, le groupe des Ansar. Quand Allah a aidé Son Prophète ﷺ et donné la victoire à l’islam, nous avons pensé : “Allons, restons dans nos biens et améliorons-les.” Alors Allah, le Très-Haut, a révélé : “Dépensez dans le chemin d’Allah et ne vous jetez pas vous-mêmes dans la destruction.” Se mettre en danger, c’est rester chez soi, s’occuper de ses biens et délaisser le combat (jihad). » Abu Imran a ajouté : Abu Ayyub a continué à lutter dans le chemin d’Allah jusqu’à ce qu’il meure et soit enterré à Constantinople

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ السَّرْحِ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، عَنْ حَيْوَةَ بْنِ شُرَيْحٍ، وَابْنِ، لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، عَنْ أَسْلَمَ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ، قَالَ : غَزَوْنَا مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ نُرِيدُ الْقُسْطَنْطِينِيَّةَ، وَعَلَى الْجَمَاعَةِ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ خَالِدِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ وَالرُّومُ مُلْصِقُو ظُهُورِهِمْ بِحَائِطِ الْمَدِينَةِ، فَحَمَلَ رَجُلٌ عَلَى الْعَدُوِّ فَقَالَ النَّاسُ : مَهْ، مَهْ، لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ، يُلْقِي بِيَدَيْهِ إِلَى التَّهْلُكَةِ . فَقَالَ أَبُو أَيُّوبَ : إِنَّمَا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةُ فِينَا مَعْشَرَ الأَنْصَارِ لَمَّا نَصَرَ اللَّهُ نَبِيَّهُ وَأَظْهَرَ الإِسْلاَمَ، قُلْنَا : هَلُمَّ نُقِيمُ فِي أَمْوَالِنَا وَنُصْلِحُهَا، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى { وَأَنْفِقُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَلاَ تُلْقُوا بِأَيْدِيكُمْ إِلَى التَّهْلُكَةِ } فَالإِلْقَاءُ بِالأَيْدِي إِلَى التَّهْلُكَةِ أَنْ نُقِيمَ فِي أَمْوَالِنَا وَنُصْلِحَهَا وَنَدَعَ الْجِهَادَ . قَالَ أَبُو عِمْرَانَ : فَلَمْ يَزَلْ أَبُو أَيُّوبَ يُجَاهِدُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ حَتَّى دُفِنَ بِالْقُسْطَنْطِينِيَّةِ .
Traduction anglaise
Narrated AbuAyyub: AbuImran said: We went out on an expedition from Medina with the intention of (attacking) Constantinople. AbdurRahman ibn Khalid ibn al-Walid was the leader of the company. The Romans were just keeping their backs to the walls of the city. A man (suddenly) attacked the enemy. Thereupon the people said: Stop! Stop! There is no god but Allah. He is putting himself into danger. AbuAyyub said: This verse was revealed about us, the group of the Ansar (the Helpers). When Allah helped His Prophet (ﷺ) and gave Islam dominance, we said (i.e. thought): Come on! Let us stay in our property and improve it. Thereupon Allah, the Exalted, revealed, "And spend of your substance in the cause of Allah, and make not your hands contribute to (your destruction)". To put oneself into danger means that we stay in our property and commit ourselves to its improvement, and abandon fighting (i.e. jihad). AbuImran said: AbuAyyub continued to strive in the cause of Allah until he (died and) was buried in Constantinople

اسلم ابوعمران کہتے ہیں کہ ہم مدینہ سے جہاد کے لیے چلے، ہم قسطنطنیہ کا ارادہ کر رہے تھے، اور جماعت ( اسلامی لشکر ) کے سردار عبدالرحمٰن بن خالد بن ولید تھے، اور رومی شہر ( قسطنطنیہ ) کی دیواروں سے اپنی پیٹھ لگائے ہوئے تھے ۱؎، تو ہم میں سے ایک دشمن پر چڑھ دوڑا تو لوگوں نے کہا: رکو، رکو، اللہ کے علاوہ کوئی معبود برحق نہیں، یہ تو اپنی جان ہلاکت میں ڈال رہا ہے، ابوایوب رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: یہ آیت تو ہم انصار کی جماعت کے بارے میں اتری، جب اللہ نے اپنے نبی کی مدد کی اور اسلام کو غلبہ عطا کیا تو ہم نے اپنے دلوں میں کہا ( اب جہاد کی کیا ضرورت ہے ) آؤ اپنے مالوں میں رہیں اور اس کی دیکھ بھال کریں، تب اللہ نے یہ آیت نازل فرمائی «وأنفقوا في سبيل الله ولا تلقوا بأيديكم إلى التهلكة» اللہ کے راستے میں خرچ کرو اور اپنے آپ کو ہلاکت میں نہ ڈالو ( سورۃ البقرہ: ۱۹۵ ) اپنے آپ کو ہلاکت میں ڈالنا یہ ہے کہ ہم اپنے مالوں میں مصروف رہیں، ان کی فکر کریں اور جہاد چھوڑ دیں۔ ابوعمران کہتے ہیں: ابوایوب انصاری رضی اللہ عنہ ہمیشہ اللہ کی راہ میں جہاد کرتے رہے یہاں تک کہ قسطنطنیہ میں دفن ہوئے۔
