كتاب الجهاد
Yahia Ibn Sa'id a rapporté que Omar Ibn Al-Khattab a dit: «La générosité du bon croyant est sa piété, sa religion est sa noble lignée, sa prouesse est son bon caractère; quant à l'audace et à la lâcheté, ce sont des instincts que Allah place là où il veut. Ainsi le lâche fuit son père et sa mère, et l'audacieux combattra sans trop considérer ce qu'il pourra apporter en revenant chez lui. La tuerie est un moyen de la mort. Le martyr est celui qui se donne pour Allah, espérant obtenir la récompense». Chapitre XVI Du lavage du martyr

وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، قَالَ كَرَمُ الْمُؤْمِنِ تَقْوَاهُ وَدِينُهُ حَسَبُهُ وَمُرُوءَتُهُ خُلُقُهُ وَالْجُرْأَةُ وَالْجُبْنُ غَرَائِزُ يَضَعُهَا اللَّهُ حَيْثُ شَاءَ فَالْجَبَانُ يَفِرُّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَأُمِّهِ وَالْجَرِيءُ يُقَاتِلُ عَمَّا لاَ يَؤُوبُ بِهِ إِلَى رَحْلِهِ وَالْقَتْلُ حَتْفٌ مِنَ الْحُتُوفِ وَالشَّهِيدُ مَنِ احْتَسَبَ نَفْسَهُ عَلَى اللَّهِ .
Traduction anglaise
Yahya related to me from Malik from Yahya ibn Said that Umar ibn al-Khattab said, "The nobility of the mumin is his taqwa. His deen is his noble descent. His manliness is his good character. Boldness and cowardice are but instincts which Allah places wherever He wills. The coward shrinks from defending even his father and mother, and the bold one fights for the sake of the combat not for the spoils. Being slain is but one way of meeting death, and the martyr is the one who gives himself, expectant of reward from Allah
Traduction en ourdou
یحیی بن سعید سے روایت ہے کہ حضرت عمر بن خطاب فرمایا کرتے تھے؛ عزت مومن کے تقوی میں ہے اور دین اس کی شرافت ہے اور مروت اس کا خلق ہے اور بہادری اور نامردی دونوں خلقی صفتیں ہیں جس شخص میں اللہ چاہتا ہے ان صفتوں کو رکھتا ہے تو نامرد اپنے ماں باپ کو چھوڑ کر بھاگ جاتا ہے اور بہادر اس شخص سے لڑتا ہے جس کو جانتا ہے کہ گھر تک نہ جانے دے گا اور قتل ایک موت ہے موتوں میں سے اور شہید وہ ہے جو اپنی جان خوشی سے اللہ کے سپرد کر دے ۔
