Hadith 4675 — Livre 65: Prophetic Commentary on the Qur'an (Tafseer of the Prophet (pbuh))
Rapporté par Sa‘id ibn al-Musayyab, d’après son père : Lorsque la mort d’Abû Tâlib approcha, le Prophète ﷺ entra auprès de lui, alors qu’Abû Jahl et ‘Abdullah ibn Abî Umayya étaient présents. Le Prophète ﷺ dit : « Ô mon oncle, dis : Il n’y a pas d’autre divinité qu’Allah. Je plaiderai pour toi avec cela auprès d’Allah. » Abû Jahl et ‘Abdullah ibn Abî Umayya dirent : « Ô Abû Tâlib, renonces-tu à la religion de ‘Abd al-Muttalib ? » Le Prophète ﷺ dit alors : « Je demanderai pardon pour toi tant qu’il ne m’en sera pas interdit. » Puis fut révélé : {Il n’appartient pas au Prophète et à ceux qui ont cru d’implorer le pardon pour les polythéistes, même s’ils sont des proches, après qu’il leur soit apparu clairement qu’ils sont les gens de l’Enfer}

Narrated Al-Musaiyab:When Abu Talib's death approached, the Prophet (ﷺ) went to him while Abu Jahl and `Abdullah bin Abi Umaiya were present with him. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "O uncle, say: None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, so that I may argue for your case with it before Allah." On that, Abu Jahl and `Abdullah bin Abu Umaiya said, "O Abu Talib! Do you want to renounce `Abdul Muttalib's religion?" Then the Prophet said, "I will keep on asking (Allah for) forgiveness for you unless I am forbidden to do so." Then there was revealed:-- 'It is not fitting for the Prophet (ﷺ) and those who believe that they should invoke (Allah) for forgiveness for pagans even though they be of kin, after it has become clear to them that they are companions of the Fire
