Rapporté par `Abdullah : J'ai demandé au Prophète : « Quel est le plus grand péché aux yeux d'Allah ? » Il a dit : « Que tu donnes un égal à Allah alors que c’est Lui seul qui t’a créé. » J’ai dit : « C’est vraiment un grand péché. » J’ai ensuite demandé : « Et après ? » Il a dit : « Tuer ton enfant par crainte qu’il ne partage ta nourriture. » J’ai demandé : « Et après ? » Il a dit : « Commettre l’adultère avec la femme de ton voisin. »

حَدَّثَنِي عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُرَحْبِيلَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ سَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَىُّ الذَّنْبِ أَعْظَمُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ قَالَ " أَنْ تَجْعَلَ لِلَّهِ نِدًّا وَهْوَ خَلَقَكَ ". قُلْتُ إِنَّ ذَلِكَ لَعَظِيمٌ، قُلْتُ ثُمَّ أَىُّ قَالَ " وَأَنْ تَقْتُلَ وَلَدَكَ تَخَافُ أَنْ يَطْعَمَ مَعَكَ ". قُلْتُ ثُمَّ أَىُّ قَالَ " أَنْ تُزَانِيَ حَلِيلَةَ جَارِكَ ".

Narrated `Abdullah:I asked the Prophet, "What is the greatest sin in the Sight of Allah?" He said, "That you set up a rival unto Allah though He Alone created you." I said, "That is indeed a great sin." Then asked, "What is next?" He said, "To kill your son lest he should share your food with you." I asked, "What is next?" He said, "To commit illegal sexual intercourse with the wife of your neighbor

ہم سے عثمان بن ابی شیبہ نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے جریر نے بیان کیا، ان سے منصور نے، ان سے ابووائل نے، ان سے عمرو بن شرحبیل نے اور ان سے عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیان کیا کہ میں نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے پوچھا، اللہ کے نزدیک کون سا گناہ سب سے بڑا ہے؟ فرمایا اور یہ کہ تم اللہ کے ساتھ کسی کو برابر ٹھہراؤ حالانکہ اللہ ہی نے تم کو پید اکیا ہے۔ میں نے عرض کیا یہ تو واقعی سب سے بڑا گناہ ہے، پھر اس کے بعد کون سا گناہ سب سے بڑا ہے؟ فرمایا یہ کہ تم اپنی اولاد کو اس خوف سے مار ڈالو کہ وہ تمہارے ساتھ کھائیں گے۔ میں نے پوچھا اور اس کے بعد؟ فرمایا یہ کہ تم اپنے پڑوسی کی عورت سے زنا کرو۔
