The Story of Maryam and Isa (peace be upon them)

A pure woman, and a palm tree that bore fruit by a miracle.

Maryam, daughter of Imran, was among the purest women ever. She grew up in the sanctuary under the care of Zakariyya, worshipping her generous Lord, and Allah chose and purified her.

An angel came to her in the form of a well-made man and said: I am only a messenger of your Lord, to give you a pure boy. She said: how can I have a boy? He said: so your Lord has said — it is easy for Him.

She withdrew to a distant eastern place. When the labour came she leaned on the trunk of the palm and said: would that I had died before this! A voice called from below her: do not grieve — your Lord has made a stream beneath you. Shake the trunk of the palm toward you; fresh ripe dates will fall — so eat, drink, and be comforted.

When her people saw her with the baby, the infant Isa spoke in the cradle by Allah’s miracle: I am the servant of Allah; He has given me the Book and made me a prophet. Isa was a servant and messenger of Allah who believed in all the prophets before him.

وَهُزِّيٓ إِلَيۡكِ بِجِذۡعِ ٱلنَّخۡلَةِ تُسَٰقِطۡ عَلَيۡكِ رُطَبٗا جَنِيّٗا ۝

And shake toward you the trunk of the palm tree; it will drop upon you fresh, ripe dates.
