Pharaoh in Egypt used to kill the baby boys of the Children of Israel. Allah inspired Musa’s mother: nurse him, and when you fear for him, place him in the river. She put her baby in a small basket, gave him to the river, and her heart stayed calm by Allah’s promise.
Pharaoh’s own household picked him up! The baby refused every nurse until his sister suggested his mother. She nursed him and her heart was comforted: We returned him to you so your eye may cool and you do not grieve.
Musa grew up inside Pharaoh’s own palace, then migrated to Midian, then Allah made him a prophet in the blessed valley. He was given two great signs: his staff turning into a serpent, and his hand shining white without harm. He was sent to Pharaoh with the call.
A believer in Pharaoh’s family quietly announced his faith, but Pharaoh would not listen. Musa and the Children of Israel left by night until they stood at the sea: “We are overtaken!” Pharaoh’s army closed in. Musa said: never — my Lord is with me, He will guide me. It was revealed: strike the sea with your staff! It split into great towers, the believers crossed in safety, and Pharaoh and his army drowned.
فَأَوۡحَيۡنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنِ ٱضۡرِب بِّعَصَاكَ ٱلۡبَحۡرَۖ فَٱنفَلَقَ فَكَانَ كُلُّ فِرۡقٖ كَٱلطَّوۡدِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
Then We revealed to Musa: strike the sea with your staff — and it split, and each part was like a great towering mountain.
