Al-Muqaddasi

He walked most of the lands of Islam on foot to know countries by his own eyes rather than by hearsay, producing in The Best Divisions for Knowledge of the Regions a field description of cities, their markets and climatic features. He was the first to employ climatic regionalisation as a science of the land, offering a descriptive method of geographic observation.
