Allah — there is no god but He, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all. Neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth. Who can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they encompass nothing of His knowledge except what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and preserving them does not tire Him. He is the Most High, the Most Great.

Whoever recites it in the morning is protected from the jinn until evening, and whoever recites it in the evening is protected until morning.

We have entered the evening and the dominion belongs to Allah, and all praise is for Allah. There is no god but Allah alone, without partner; His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He has power over all things. My Lord, I ask You for the good of this night and the good of what follows it, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of this night and the evil of what follows it. My Lord, I seek refuge in You from laziness and the misery of old age. My Lord, I seek refuge in You from punishment in the Fire and punishment in the grave.

The Prophet ﷺ used to say it every morning and evening.

    Muslim

Allāhumma bika amsaynā, wa bika aṣbaḥnā, wa bika naḥyā, wa bika namūtu, wa ilaykal-maṣīr.

O Allah, by You we enter the evening and by You we enter the morning, by You we live and by You we die, and to You is the final return.

One of the Prophet’s ﷺ morning and evening remembrances.

    Abu Dawud, At-Tirmidhi

Allāhumma innī amsaytu ush-hiduk, wa ush-hidu ḥamalata 'arshik, wa malā'ikatak, wa jamī'a khalqik, annaka antallāhu lā ilāha illā anta waḥdaka lā sharīka lak, wa anna Muḥammadan 'abduka wa rasūluk.

O Allah, I have entered the evening calling You to witness, and calling to witness the bearers of Your Throne, Your angels and all Your creation, that You are Allah — there is no god but You alone, without partner — and that Muhammad is Your servant and Messenger.

Whoever says it four times morning or evening, Allah frees him from the Fire.

    Abu Dawud

Amsaynā 'alā fiṭratil-islām, wa 'alā kalimatil-ikhlāṣ, wa 'alā dīni nabiyyinā Muḥammadin ﷺ, wa 'alā millati abīnā Ibrāhīma ḥanīfan musliman wa mā kāna minal-mushrikīn.

We have entered the evening upon the natural religion of Islam, the word of sincerity, the religion of our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and the creed of our father Ibrahim — upright, a Muslim, and not of the polytheists.

The Prophet ﷺ used to say this morning and evening.

    Ahmad, An-Nasa’i (al-Kubra)

Amsaynā wa amsal-mulku lillāhi rabbil-'ālamīn, Allāhumma innī as'aluka khayra hādhihil-laylah: fatḥahā, wa naṣrahā, wa nūrahā, wa barakatahā, wa hudāhā, wa a'ūdhu bika min sharri mā fīhā wa sharri mā ba'dahā.

We have entered the evening and the dominion belongs to Allah, Lord of the worlds. O Allah, I ask You for the good of this night: its victory, its help, its light, its blessing and its guidance; and I seek refuge in You from the evil in it and the evil after it.

One of the Prophet’s ﷺ morning and evening remembrances.

    Abu Dawud

A'ūdhu bi-kalimātillāhit-tāmmāti min sharri mā khalaq.

I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.

Whoever says it three times in the evening will not be harmed by any sting that night.

Muslim; the count is in At-Tirmidhi and Ahmad

Qul huwa Allāhu aḥad, Qul a'ūdhu bi-rabbil-falaq, Qul a'ūdhu bi-rabbin-nās — cupping the palms, blowing lightly into them, reciting, then wiping over the body starting with the head and face.

Recite Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq and An-Nas; cup your palms, blow lightly into them and recite, then wipe your body as far as you can reach, starting with your head and face. Repeat three times.

The Prophet ﷺ did this every night when he went to bed.

    Al-Bukhari

Allāhu lā ilāha illā huwa al-ḥayyu al-qayyūm, lā ta'khudhuhu sinatun wa lā nawm, lahu mā fis-samāwāti wa mā fil-arḍ, man dhā alladhī yashfa'u 'indahu illā bi-idhnih, ya'lamu mā bayna aydīhim wa mā khalfahum, wa lā yuḥīṭūna bi-shay'in min 'ilmihi illā bimā shā', wasi'a kursiyyuhus-samāwāti wal-arḍ, wa lā ya'ūduhu ḥifẓuhumā, wa huwal-'aliyyul-'aẓīm.

Whoever recites it when going to bed has a guardian from Allah over him, and no devil comes near him until morning.

From the Prophet’s ﷺ supplication at bedtime.

O Allah, protect me from Your punishment on the Day You resurrect Your servants.

When the Prophet ﷺ went to sleep he placed his right hand under his cheek and said this three times.

    Abu Dawud, At-Tirmidhi

    Bismikallāhumma amūtu wa aḥyā.

The Prophet ﷺ used to say it when going to sleep.

If one of you sees a dream he likes, it is from Allah: let him praise Allah for it and tell it. If he sees something he dislikes, it is from Satan: let him seek refuge from its evil and not mention it to anyone, and it will not harm him.

    The closing verses of Āl ʿImrān (3:190–200): Inna fī khalqis-samāwāti wal-arḍi wakhtilāfil-layli wan-nahāri la-āyātin li-ulil-albāb…

The last ten verses of Surat Aal Imran (3:190–200), recited upon waking at night.

When the Prophet ﷺ rose at night he recited the last ten verses of Surat Aal Imran.

    Aal Imran 3:190–200 · Al-Bukhari, Muslim

    Astaghfirullāh (×3). Allāhumma antas-salām wa minkas-salām, tabārakta yā dhal-jalāli wal-ikrām.

I seek forgiveness from Allah (three times). O Allah, You are Peace and from You comes peace; blessed are You, O Possessor of majesty and honour.

When the Prophet ﷺ finished his prayer he sought forgiveness three times, then said this.

    Muslim

Lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-ḥamdu wa huwa 'alā kulli shay'in qadīr. Allāhumma lā māni'a limā a'ṭayt, wa lā mu'ṭiya limā mana't, wa lā yanfa'u dhal-jaddi minkal-jadd.

There is no god but Allah alone, without partner; His is the dominion and the praise, and He has power over all things. O Allah, none can withhold what You give, none can give what You withhold, and no wealth or status benefits its owner against You.

The Prophet ﷺ said it after every obligatory prayer.

    Al-Bukhari, Muslim

    Subḥānallāh.

Glory be to Allah. (33 times)

Whoever glorifies Allah 33 times, praises Him 33 and says Allahu Akbar 33 after every prayer, then completes the hundred with “La ilaha illallah…”, his sins are forgiven even if like the foam of the sea.

    Muslim

    Al-ḥamdu lillāh.

All praise is for Allah. (33 times)

Said after the tasbih, as part of the 33 + 33 + 33.

    Muslim

    Allāhu akbar.

Allah is the Greatest. (33 times)

Then complete the hundred with “La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lah…”.

    Muslim

Allāhu lā ilāha illā huwa al-ḥayyu al-qayyūm, lā ta'khudhuhu sinatun wa lā nawm, lahu mā fis-samāwāti wa mā fil-arḍ, man dhā alladhī yashfa'u 'indahu illā bi-idhnih, ya'lamu mā bayna aydīhim wa mā khalfahum, wa lā yuḥīṭūna bi-shay'in min 'ilmihi illā bimā shā', wasi'a kursiyyuhus-samāwāti wal-arḍ, wa lā ya'ūduhu ḥifẓuhumā, wa huwal-'aliyyul-'aẓīm.

Whoever recites it after every obligatory prayer, nothing prevents him from entering Paradise except death.

    Ayat al-Kursi — Al-Baqarah 2:255 · An-Nasa’i (al-Kubra)
