Jurisprudence & Its Principles
Ahmad ibn Hanbal
Imam of the Sunnah — 780–855 CE / Baghdad
He stood firm in the trial over the createdness of the Qur'an, becoming the symbol of steadfastness on truth. His Musnad gathers some forty thousand Prophetic hadiths, purified and chained; the Hanbali school is the root of today's Saudi jurisprudence, and among his students in hadith were al-Bukhari and Muslim.
