Yusuf, peace be upon him, saw eleven stars, the sun and the moon bowing to him in a dream, and told his father Yaqub. His father said: do not tell this dream to your brothers; if they see it, they may plot against you.
Envy filled the brothers’ hearts. They took Yusuf and threw him down a far well, then came home crying: a wolf ate him! But a caravan drew water and pulled him out, sold him for a low price, and he became a young servant in the house of Egypt’s minister.
In Egypt Yusuf was tested and, because of a false accusation, prison became dearer to him than what they called him to. In prison he interpreted dreams truthfully, and his name reached the king.
He interpreted the king’s dream and was put in charge of the storehouses through the years of hunger. His brothers came begging for grain, and when they learned who he was, they were overwhelmed. Yusuf said: no blame on you today! And when his parents came and bowed, he said: this is the meaning of my old dream.
He said: no blame on you today — may Allah forgive you, and He is the Most Merciful of the merciful.
