Ibn Zuhr (Avenzoar)

The first to describe precisely pericarditis and a mediastinal abscess, and author of Al-Taysir fi al-Mudawati wa-l-Tadbir, translated by Gerard of Cremona into a reference for Europe's physicians. His contemporaries noted his rigorous experimentation on animals before prescribing treatments to humans.
