Fatima al-Fihri

With her sister Mariam she founded al-Qarawiyyin University in Fez in 859 CE from their father's inheritance — by UNESCO and Guinness, the oldest continuously operating higher-education institution in the world, preceding Oxford by more than two centuries. She taught Qur'an, law, astronomy and mathematics there, standing as a chapter of the nation's learning.
