The Story of Prophet Ibrahim and the Cool Fire

The close friend of the Merciful — the fire could not harm him.

Ibrahim, peace be upon him, searched for the Lord of the heavens and the earth. He looked at the star, the moon and the sun and said: I do not worship what sets — I worship the One who created me. He worshipped Allah alone.

Among his people he broke the small idols and left the biggest, so they would see that idols can neither help nor harm. They cried: who did this to our gods? He answered gently: rather, the biggest one did — ask them, if they can speak.

The people grew angry and decided: burn him and defend your gods! They built a catapult and threw him into a huge fire. But Ibrahim feared only Allah and said: Allah is enough for me, and He is the best guardian.

Allah said to the fire: be cool and safe for Ibrahim! And he walked out of the flames unharmed. Later Allah gave him his son Ismail in his old age, and father and son built the Kabah, praying for a prophet in his descendants.

قُلۡنَا يَٰنَارُ كُونِي بَرۡدٗا وَسَلَٰمًا عَلَىٰٓ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ ۝

We said, O fire, be cool and safe for Ibrahim.
