Dua for parents

Short answerQuranic supplications for living and deceased parents: “My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up when I was small” and “Our Lord, forgive me and my parents.” Honouring parents is among the greatest acts of worship, and praying for them is among the best ways to do so.

  1. وَٱخۡفِضۡ لَهُمَا جَنَاحَ ٱلذُّلِّ مِنَ ٱلرَّحۡمَةِ وَقُل رَّبِّ ٱرۡحَمۡهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرٗا

    Rabbir-ḥamhumā kamā rabbayānī ṣaghīrā.

    你要对他俩降低怜悯之翼，你应当说：“我的养主啊！求你怜悯他俩，就像我年幼时他俩养育我那样。

    Part of kindness to parents is praying for them to receive mercy.

    Al-Isra 17:24

  2. رَبَّنَا ٱغۡفِرۡ لِي وَلِوَٰلِدَيَّ وَلِلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ يَوۡمَ يَقُومُ ٱلۡحِسَابُ

    Rabbanagh-fir lī wa liwālidayya wa lil-mu'minīna yawma yaqūmul-ḥisāb.

    我们的养主啊！求你在清算实现之日饶恕我和我的双亲和信士们。”

    The dua of Ibrahim.

  3. وَوَصَّيۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ بِوَٰلِدَيۡهِ إِحۡسَٰنًاۖ حَمَلَتۡهُ أُمُّهُۥ كُرۡهٗا وَوَضَعَتۡهُ كُرۡهٗاۖ وَحَمۡلُهُۥ وَفِصَٰلُهُۥ ثَلَٰثُونَ شَهۡرًاۚ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا بَلَغَ أَشُدَّهُۥ وَبَلَغَ أَرۡبَعِينَ سَنَةٗ قَالَ رَبِّ أَوۡزِعۡنِيٓ أَنۡ أَشۡكُرَ نِعۡمَتَكَ ٱلَّتِيٓ أَنۡعَمۡتَ عَلَيَّ وَعَلَىٰ وَٰلِدَيَّ وَأَنۡ أَعۡمَلَ صَٰلِحٗا تَرۡضَىٰهُ وَأَصۡلِحۡ لِي فِي ذُرِّيَّتِيٓۖ إِنِّي تُبۡتُ إِلَيۡكَ وَإِنِّي مِنَ ٱلۡمُسۡلِمِينَ

    Rabbi awzi'nī an ashkura ni'mataka allatī an'amta 'alayya wa 'alā wālidayya wa an a'mala ṣāliḥan tarḍāh.

    我曾命人孝敬父母。他的母亲，辛苦地怀他，辛苦地生他，他受胎和断乳的时期，共计三十个月。当他达到壮年，再达到四十岁的时候，他说：“我的养主啊！求你启迪我，使我感谢你所施于我和我的父母的恩惠，并行你所喜悦的善事。求你为我改善我的后裔。我确已向你悔罪，我确是一个顺服者。”

How can I honour my parents after they pass away?

By praying and seeking forgiveness for them, fulfilling their promises, keeping ties with their friends, and giving charity on their behalf. (See Muslim 1631)
