Rapporté par Hafs b. 'Asim : J’ai accompagné Ibn 'Umar en voyage. Il nous a dirigés dans la prière du midi en deux rak‘as. Ensuite il a continué et a vu des gens debout. Il a demandé : « Que font-ils ? » J’ai répondu : « Ils glorifient Allah (c’est-à-dire qu’ils accomplissent une prière surérogatoire). » Il a dit : « Si j’avais accompli une prière surérogatoire en voyage, j’aurais complété la prière, mon cousin. J’ai accompagné le Messager d’Allah ﷺ pendant le voyage, il n’a jamais prié plus de deux rak‘as jusqu’à sa mort. J’ai aussi accompagné Abu Bakr, et il priait deux rak‘as et rien de plus jusqu’à sa mort. J’ai aussi accompagné 'Umar, et il priait deux rak‘as et rien de plus jusqu’à sa mort. J’ai aussi accompagné 'Uthman, et il priait deux rak‘as et rien de plus jusqu’à sa mort. En vérité, Allah, le Très-Haut, a dit : “Vous avez dans le Messager d’Allah un excellent modèle.” »

حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ حَفْصِ بْنِ عَاصِمِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ صَحِبْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ فِي طَرِيقٍ - قَالَ - فَصَلَّى بِنَا رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ فَرَأَى نَاسًا قِيَامًا فَقَالَ مَا يَصْنَعُ هَؤُلاَءِ قُلْتُ يُسَبِّحُونَ . قَالَ لَوْ كُنْتُ مُسَبِّحًا أَتْمَمْتُ صَلاَتِي يَا ابْنَ أَخِي إِنِّي صَحِبْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي السَّفَرِ فَلَمْ يَزِدْ عَلَى رَكْعَتَيْنِ حَتَّى قَبَضَهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَصَحِبْتُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ فَلَمْ يَزِدْ عَلَى رَكْعَتَيْنِ حَتَّى قَبَضَهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَصَحِبْتُ عُمَرَ فَلَمْ يَزِدْ عَلَى رَكْعَتَيْنِ حَتَّى قَبَضَهُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى وَصَحِبْتُ عُثْمَانَ فَلَمْ يَزِدْ عَلَى رَكْعَتَيْنِ حَتَّى قَبَضَهُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى وَقَدْ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ { لَقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ } .
Traduction anglaise
Narrated Hafs b. 'Asim:I accompanied Ibn 'Umar on the way (on a journey). He led us in two rak'ah's of (the noon) prayer. Then he proceeded and saw some people standing. He asked: What are they doing ? I replied: They are glorifying Allah (i.e. offering supererogatory prayer). He said: If I had offered the supererogatory prayer (while travelling), I would have completed prayer, my cousin. I accompanied the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) during the journey, he did not pray more than two raka'at until his death. I also accompanied Abu Bakr, and he prayed two raka'at and nothing more until he died. I also accompanied 'Umar, and he prayed two raka'at and nothing more until he died. I also accompanied 'Uthman, and he prayed two raka'at and nothing more until he died. Indeed Allah, the Exalted, said: "Certainly you have in the Messenger of Allah an excellent exemplar
Traduction en ourdou
حفص بن عاصم کہتے ہیں کہ میں ایک سفر میں ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کے ساتھ رہا تو آپ نے ہم کو دو رکعت نماز پڑھائی پھر متوجہ ہوئے تو دیکھا کہ کچھ لوگ ( نماز کی حالت میں ) کھڑے ہیں، پوچھا: یہ لوگ کیا کر رہے ہیں؟ میں نے کہا: یہ نفل پڑھ رہے ہیں، تو آپ نے کہا: بھتیجے! اگر مجھے نفل ۱؎ پڑھنی ہوتی تو میں اپنی نماز ہی پوری پڑھتا، میں سفر میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ رہا لیکن آپ نے دو سے زیادہ رکعتیں نہیں پڑھیں یہاں تک کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے آپ کو وفات دے دی، پھر میں ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ کے ساتھ رہا انہوں نے بھی دو رکعت سے زیادہ نہیں پڑھیں یہاں تک کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے انہیں وفات دے دی، اور عمر رضی اللہ عنہ کے ساتھ رہا انہوں نے بھی دو سے زیادہ رکعتیں نہیں پڑھیں یہاں تک کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے انہیں وفات دے دی، مجھے ( سفر میں ) عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ کی رفاقت بھی ملی لیکن انہوں نے بھی دو سے زیادہ رکعتیں نہیں پڑھیں یہاں تک کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے انہیں وفات دے دی، اور اللہ عزوجل فرما چکا ہے: «لقد كان لكم في رسول الله أسوة حسنة» تمہارے لیے اللہ کے رسول کی زندگی میں بہترین نمونہ ہے ۔
