Dua for rain

Short answerAuthentic supplications when it rains: “O God, a beneficial rain,” afterwards “We have been given rain by God’s grace and mercy,” and the dua for rain in times of drought. Rain is a blessing met with thanks and dua.

  1. اللَّهُمَّ صَيِّبًا نَافِعًا

    Pronunciation & translation

    Allāhumma ṣayyiban nāfi'ā.

    O God, make it a beneficial rain.

    The Prophet ﷺ said it when he saw rain.

  2. مُطِرْنَا بِفَضْلِ اللَّهِ وَرَحْمَتِهِ

    Pronunciation & translation

    Muṭirnā bifaḍlillāhi wa raḥmatih.

    We have been given rain by the grace and mercy of God.

    Saying it attributes the blessing to God, not the stars.

  3. اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا

    Pronunciation & translation

    Allāhumma aghithnā (×3).

    O God, relieve us with rain (three times).

    The dua for rain in drought.
