كتاب الصوم
Rapporté par Kuraib : Umm Fadl, fille de Harith, m’a envoyé (Fadl, c’est-à-dire son fils) chez Mu’awiya en Syrie. Je suis arrivé en Syrie et j’ai fait ce qu’elle m’avait demandé. C’est là-bas que le mois de Ramadan a commencé. J’ai vu le croissant de lune (de Ramadan) un vendredi. Ensuite, je suis revenu à Médine à la fin du mois. Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas رضي الله عنهما m’a demandé (au sujet du croissant de Ramadan) : « Quand l’as-tu vu ? » J’ai répondu : « Nous l’avons vu dans la nuit de vendredi. » Il a dit : « Tu l’as vu toi-même ? » J’ai répondu : « Oui, et les gens aussi l’ont vu, ils ont jeûné et Mu’awiya aussi. » Il a alors dit : « Mais nous, nous l’avons vu dans la nuit de samedi. Donc, nous continuerons à jeûner jusqu’à compléter trente jours ou jusqu’à ce que nous le voyions (le croissant de Shawwal). » J’ai demandé : « La vision de la lune par Mu’awiya ne suffit-elle pas pour vous ? » Il a répondu : « Non ; c’est ainsi que le Messager d’Allah ﷺ nous a ordonné de faire. » Yahya ibn Yahya avait un doute sur le mot utilisé dans le récit de Kuraib : Naktafi ou Taktafi

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، وَيَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ، وَقُتَيْبَةُ، وَابْنُ، حُجْرٍ قَالَ يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا وَقَالَ الآخَرُونَ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، - وَهُوَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ - عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ، - وَهُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي حَرْمَلَةَ - عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ، أَنَّ أُمَّ الْفَضْلِ بِنْتَ الْحَارِثِ، بَعَثَتْهُ إِلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ بِالشَّامِ قَالَ فَقَدِمْتُ الشَّامَ فَقَضَيْتُ حَاجَتَهَا وَاسْتُهِلَّ عَلَىَّ رَمَضَانُ وَأَنَا بِالشَّامِ فَرَأَيْتُ الْهِلاَلَ لَيْلَةَ الْجُمُعَةِ ثُمَّ قَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ فِي آخِرِ الشَّهْرِ فَسَأَلَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبَّاسٍ - رضى الله عنهما - ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ الْهِلاَلَ فَقَالَ مَتَى رَأَيْتُمُ الْهِلاَلَ فَقُلْتُ رَأَيْنَاهُ لَيْلَةَ الْجُمُعَةِ . فَقَالَ أَنْتَ رَأَيْتَهُ فَقُلْتُ نَعَمْ وَرَآهُ النَّاسُ وَصَامُوا وَصَامَ مُعَاوِيَةُ . فَقَالَ لَكِنَّا رَأَيْنَاهُ لَيْلَةَ السَّبْتِ فَلاَ نَزَالُ نَصُومُ حَتَّى نُكْمِلَ ثَلاَثِينَ أَوْ نَرَاهُ . فَقُلْتُ أَوَلاَ تَكْتَفِي بِرُؤْيَةِ مُعَاوِيَةَ وَصِيَامِهِ فَقَالَ لاَ هَكَذَا أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم . وَشَكَّ يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى فِي نَكْتَفِي أَوْ تَكْتَفِي .
Traduction anglaise
Kuraib reported that Umm Fadl, daughter of Harith, sent him (Fadl, i.e. her son) to Mu'awiya in Syria. I (Fadl) arrived in Syria, and did the needful for her. It was there in Syria that the month of Ramadan commenced. I saw the new moon (of Ramadan) on Friday. I then came back to Medina at the end of the month. Abdullah b. 'Abbas (Allah be pleased with him) asked me (about the new moon of Ramadan) and said:When did you see it? I said: We saw it on the night of Friday. He said: (Did) you see it yourself? I said: Yes, and the people also saw it and they fasted and Mu'awiya also fasted, whereupon he said: But we saw it on Saturday night. So we will continue to fast till we complete thirty (fasts) or we see it (the new moon of Shawwal). I said: Is the sighting of the moon by Mu'awiya not valid for you? He said: No; this is how the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) has commanded us. Yahya b. Yahya was in doubt (whether the word used in the narration by Kuraib) was Naktafi or Taktafi

کریب کو سیدہ ام الفضل بنت حارث رضی اللہ عنہا نے سیدنا معاویہ رضی اللہ عنہ کی طرف بھیجا شام میں، انہوں نے کہا کہ میں گیا شام کو اور ان کا کام نکال دیا اور میں نے چاند دیکھا رمضان کا شام میں جمعہ کی شب کو (یعنی پنج شنبہ کی شام کو) پھر مدینہ آیا آخر ماہ میں اور سیدنا عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے پوچھا مجھ سے اور ذکر کیا چاند کا کہ تم نے کب دیکھا؟ میں نے کہا: جمعہ کی شب کو۔ انہوں نے کہا: تم نے خود دیکھا؟ میں نے کہا: ہاں اور لوگوں نے بھی دیکھا اور روزہ رکھا سیدنا معاویہ رضی اللہ عنہ اور لوگوں نے تو سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے فرمایا: کہ ہم نے تو ہفتہ کی شب کو دیکھا اور ہم پورے تیس روزے رکھیں گے یا چاند دیکھ لیں گے تو میں نے کہا: آپ کافی نہیں جانتے دیکھنا سیدنا معاویہ رضی اللہ عنہ کا اور ان کا روزہ رکھنا؟ آپ نے فرمایا نہیں ایسا ہی حکم کیا ہے ہم کو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اور یحییٰ بن یحییٰ کو شک ہے کہ «نَكْتَفِى» کہا یا «تَكْتَفِى» ۔
