Rapporté par Ibn `Abbas : À propos du verset : « Et ne dites pas à celui qui vous offre la paix (en acceptant l’Islam) : Tu n’es pas croyant. » Il y avait un homme parmi ses moutons. Les musulmans l’ont poursuivi, et il leur a dit : « Paix sur vous. » Mais ils l’ont tué et ont pris ses moutons. Alors Allah a révélé à ce sujet le verset jusqu’à : « ...cherchant les biens éphémères de cette vie. » (4:94), c’est-à-dire ces moutons

حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ {وَلاَ تَقُولُوا لِمَنْ أَلْقَى إِلَيْكُمُ السَّلاَمَ لَسْتَ مُؤْمِنًا}. قَالَ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ كَانَ رَجُلٌ فِي غُنَيْمَةٍ لَهُ فَلَحِقَهُ الْمُسْلِمُونَ فَقَالَ السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ، فَقَتَلُوهُ وَأَخَذُوا غُنَيْمَتَهُ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ فِي ذَلِكَ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ {عَرَضَ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا} تِلْكَ الْغُنَيْمَةُ. قَالَ قَرَأَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ السَّلاَمَ.
Traduction anglaise
Narrated Ibn `Abbas:Regarding the Verse: "And say not to anyone who offers you peace (by accepting Islam), You are not a believer." There was a man amidst his sheep. The Muslims pursued him, and he said (to them) "Peace be on you." But they killed him and took over his sheep. Thereupon Allah revealed in that concern, the above Verse up to:-- "...seeking the perishable good of this life." (4.94) i.e. those sheep

مجھ سے علی بن عبداللہ مدینی نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے سفیان بن عیینہ نے بیان کیا، ان سے عمرو بن دینار نے، ان سے عطاء نے اور ان سے ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے آیت «ولا تقولوا لمن ألقى إليكم السلام لست مؤمنا» ”اور جو تمہیں سلام کرتا ہو اسے یہ مت کہہ دیا کرو کہ تو تو مومن ہی نہیں ہے۔“ کے بارے میں فرمایا کہ ایک صاحب ( مرداس نامی ) اپنی بکریاں چرا رہے تھے، ایک مہم پر جاتے ہوئے کچھ مسلمان انہیں ملے تو انہوں نے کہا ”السلام علیکم“ لیکن مسلمانوں نے بہانہ خور جان کر انہیں قتل کر دیا اور ان کی بکریوں پر قبضہ کر لیا۔ اس پر اللہ تعالیٰ نے یہ آیت نازل کی تھی آخر آیت «عرض الحياة الدنيا» اس سے اشارہ انہیں بکریوں کی طرف تھا۔ بیان کیا کہ ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے «السلام» قرآت کی ہے، مشہور قرآت بھی یہی ہے۔
