Rapporté par `Abdullah : Aujourd'hui, un homme est venu me voir et m'a posé une question à laquelle je ne savais pas répondre. Il a dit : « Dis-moi, si un homme riche, actif et bien armé part en expédition avec nos chefs et nous ordonne de faire des choses que nous ne pouvons pas faire (devons-nous lui obéir ?) » J'ai répondu : « Par Allah, je ne sais pas quoi te répondre, sauf que nous étions avec le Prophète (ﷺ) et il nous ordonnait de faire une chose à la fois jusqu'à ce que nous l'ayons terminée. Et sans doute, chacun d'entre vous restera dans une bonne situation tant qu'il obéira à Allah. Si quelqu'un doute de la légalité de quelque chose, il doit demander à quelqu'un qui pourra le rassurer, mais bientôt viendra un temps où vous ne trouverez plus un tel homme. Par Celui, en dehors duquel nul n'a le droit d'être adoré, je vois que ce qui est passé de cette vie par rapport à ce qu'il en reste ressemble à un bassin dont l'eau fraîche a été consommée et où il ne reste que de l'eau boueuse. »

حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ لَقَدْ أَتَانِي الْيَوْمَ رَجُلٌ فَسَأَلَنِي عَنْ أَمْرٍ مَا دَرَيْتُ مَا أَرُدُّ عَلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ رَجُلاً مُؤْدِيًا نَشِيطًا، يَخْرُجُ مَعَ أُمَرَائِنَا فِي الْمَغَازِي، فَيَعْزِمُ عَلَيْنَا فِي أَشْيَاءَ لاَ نُحْصِيهَا. فَقُلْتُ لَهُ وَاللَّهِ مَا أَدْرِي مَا أَقُولُ لَكَ إِلاَّ أَنَّا كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَعَسَى أَنْ لاَ يَعْزِمَ عَلَيْنَا فِي أَمْرٍ إِلاَّ مَرَّةً حَتَّى نَفْعَلَهُ، وَإِنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ لَنْ يَزَالَ بِخَيْرٍ مَا اتَّقَى اللَّهَ، وَإِذَا شَكَّ فِي نَفْسِهِ شَىْءٌ سَأَلَ رَجُلاً فَشَفَاهُ مِنْهُ، وَأَوْشَكَ أَنْ لاَ تَجِدُوهُ، وَالَّذِي لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ مَا أَذْكُرُ مَا غَبَرَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا إِلاَّ كَالثَّغْبِ شُرِبَ صَفْوُهُ وَبَقِيَ كَدَرُهُ.
Traduction anglaise
Narrated `Abdullah:Today a man came to me and asked me a question which I did not know how to answer. He said, "Tell me, if a wealthy active man, well-equipped with arms, goes out on military expeditions with our chiefs, and orders us to do such things as we cannot do (should we obey him?)" I replied, "By Allah, I do not know what to reply to you, except that we, were in the company of the Prophet (ﷺ) and he used to order us to do a thing once only till we finished it. And no doubt, everyone among you will remain in a good state as long as he obeys Allah. If one is in doubt as to the legality of something, he should ask somebody who would satisfy him, but soon will come a time when you will not find such a man. By Him, except Whom none has the right to be worshipped. I see that the example of what has passed of this life (to what remains thereof) is like a pond whose fresh water has been used up and nothing remains but muddy water

ہم سے عثمان بن ابی شیبہ نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے جریر نے بیان کیا، ان سے منصور نے، ان سے ابووائل نے اور ان سے عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیان کیا کہ میرے پاس ایک شخص آیا، اور ایسی بات پوچھی کہ میری کچھ سمجھ میں نہ آیا کہ اس کا جواب کیا دوں۔ اس نے پوچھا، مجھے یہ مسئلہ بتائیے کہ ایک شخص بہت ہی خوش اور ہتھیار بند ہو کر ہمارے امیروں کے ساتھ جہاد کے لیے جاتا ہے۔ پھر وہ امیر ہمیں ایسی چیزوں کا مکلف قرار دیتے ہیں کہ ہم ان کی طاقت نہیں رکھتے۔ میں نے کہا، اللہ کی قسم! میری کچھ سمجھ میں نہیں آتا کہ تمہاری بات کا جواب کیا دوں، البتہ جب ہم رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ ( آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی حیات مبارکہ میں ) تھے تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو کسی بھی معاملہ میں صرف ایک مرتبہ حکم کی ضرورت پیش آتی تھی اور ہم فوراً ہی اسے بجا لاتے تھے، یہ یاد رکھنے کی بات ہے کہ تم لوگوں میں اس وقت تک خیر رہے گی جب تک تم اللہ سے ڈرتے رہو گے، اور اگر تمہارے دل میں کسی معاملہ میں شبہ پیدا ہو جائے ( کہ کیا چاہئے یا نہیں ) تو کسی عالم سے اس کے متعلق پوچھ لو تاکہ تشفی ہو جائے، وہ دور بھی آنے والا ہے کہ کوئی ایسا آدمی بھی ( جو صحیح صحیح مسئلے بتا دے ) تمہیں نہیں ملے گا۔ اس ذات کی قسم جس کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں! جتنی دنیا باقی رہ گئی ہے وہ وادی کے اس پانی کی طرح ہے جس کا صاف اور اچھا حصہ تو پیا جا چکا ہے اور گدلا حصہ باقی رہ گیا ہے۔
