Rapporté par `Abdullah bin `Umar : Un jour, le Messager d’Allah (ﷺ) a dit : « Parmi les arbres, il y en a un dont les feuilles ne tombent pas et qui ressemble au musulman. Dites-moi le nom de cet arbre. » Tout le monde a commencé à penser aux arbres du désert et j’ai pensé au palmier-dattier, mais j’ai eu honte de répondre. Les autres ont demandé : « Ô Messager d’Allah ! Dis-le nous. » Il a répondu : « C’est le palmier-dattier. » J’ai raconté à mon père ce à quoi j’avais pensé, et il m’a dit : « Si tu l’avais dit, j’aurais préféré cela à telle ou telle chose que je possède. »

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " إِنَّ مِنَ الشَّجَرِ شَجَرَةً لاَ يَسْقُطُ وَرَقُهَا، وَهِيَ مَثَلُ الْمُسْلِمِ، حَدِّثُونِي مَا هِيَ ". فَوَقَعَ النَّاسُ فِي شَجَرِ الْبَادِيَةِ، وَوَقَعَ فِي نَفْسِي أَنَّهَا النَّخْلَةُ. قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ فَاسْتَحْيَيْتُ. فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، أَخْبِرْنَا بِهَا. فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " هِيَ النَّخْلَةُ ". قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ فَحَدَّثْتُ أَبِي بِمَا وَقَعَ فِي نَفْسِي فَقَالَ لأَنْ تَكُونَ قُلْتَهَا أَحَبُّ إِلَىَّ مِنْ أَنْ يَكُونَ لِي كَذَا وَكَذَا.
Traduction anglaise
Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar:Once Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Amongst the trees there is a tree, the leaves of which do not fall and is like a Muslim, tell me the name of that tree." Everybody started thinking about the trees of the desert areas and I thought of the date-palm tree but felt shy (to answer). The others asked, "O Allah's Apostle! inform us of it." He replied, "It is the date-palm tree." I told my father what had come to my mind and on that he said, "Had you said it I would have preferred it to such and such a thing that I might possess

ہم سے اسماعیل نے بیان کیا، ان سے مالک نے عبداللہ بن دینار کے واسطے سے بیان کیا، وہ عبداللہ بن عمر سے روایت کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے (ایک مرتبہ) فرمایا کہ درختوں میں سے ایک درخت ( ایسا ) ہے۔ جس کے پتے ( کبھی ) نہیں جھڑتے اور اس کی مثال مسلمان جیسی ہے۔ مجھے بتلاؤ وہ کیا ( درخت ) ہے؟ تو لوگ جنگلی درختوں ( کی سوچ ) میں پڑ گئے اور میرے دل میں آیا ( کہ میں بتلا دوں ) کہ وہ کھجور ( کا پیڑ ) ہے، عبداللہ کہتے ہیں کہ پھر مجھے شرم آ گئی ( اور میں چپ ہی رہا ) تب لوگوں نے عرض کیا یا رسول اللہ! آپ ہی ( خود ) اس کے بارہ میں بتلائیے، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا، وہ کھجور ہے۔ عبداللہ کہتے ہیں کہ میرے جی میں جو بات تھی وہ میں نے اپنے والد ( عمر رضی اللہ عنہ ) کو بتلائی، وہ کہنے لگے کہ اگر تو ( اس وقت ) کہہ دیتا تو میرے لیے ایسے ایسے قیمتی سرمایہ سے زیادہ محبوب ہوتا۔
