Allah sent Nuh, peace be upon him, to a people who worshipped idols instead of Allah. He called them night and day: worship Allah alone. He stayed among them nine hundred and fifty years, patient with them.
His people only ran further away, so Allah revealed to him: build the ark under Our eyes. He started building while the people laughed at him. He said: the punishment of Allah will come when He wills, and you will not escape it.
When Allah’s command came, the oven overflowed. He said: carry aboard two of every kind, your family, and the believers. The animals and birds went in, and the believers climbed aboard. Even his own son refused to board, and he was lost with the wrongdoers.
The gates were sealed, the sky poured, the earth burst with springs, and the waters became a great flood. The ark sailed with the believers over waves like mountains. Then the water receded and the ark rested on al-Judi, and Nuh came down in peace from Allah.
قِيلَ يَٰنُوحُ ٱهۡبِطۡ بِسَلَٰمٖ مِّنَّا وَبَرَكَٰتٍ عَلَيۡكَ وَعَلَىٰٓ أُمَمٖ مِّمَّن مَّعَكَۚ وَأُمَمٞ سَنُمَتِّعُهُمۡ ثُمَّ يَمَسُّهُم مِّنَّا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٞ
It was said, O Nuh, come down in peace from Us, and blessings upon you and upon nations descending from those with you.
