Al-Battani

Among the greatest astronomers of the entire Middle Ages, author of the Sabian Zij in which he corrected the distances of the Sun and Moon and the orbital year. He estimated the solar year within minutes of the modern calculation, discovered the motion of the solar apogee, and treated what is known as Battani's problem. His zij was translated into Latin and used by Copernicus and Tycho Brahe.
