Sahih al-Bukhari
Imam Muhammad ibn Ismail al-Bukhari · 810 – 870 CE · 7,563
By scholarly consensus the most authentic book after the Qur'an. Al-Bukhari selected about 7,563 reports from six hundred thousand he had memorized, requiring every narrator to be trustworthy and to have met his teacher in person — making his book the benchmark of hadith rigor to this day.
Selection method
He required direct meeting with the teacher, indexed narrators by names rather than homelands, and opened the book with the hadith of intentions to establish that every deed is judged by its intention.
Samples from the book
إنما الأعمال بالنيات، وإنما لكل امرئ ما نوى
Meaning: Actions are but by intentions, and every person shall have what he intended.
