Sunan Abu Dawud
Imam Sulayman ibn al-Ash'ath al-Sijistani · 817 – 889 CE · 5,274
One of the Six Books, focused on legal hadith. Abu Dawud rarely included a report except as a basis for practice, and noted scholarly disagreements about a report's grade wherever needed.
Selection method
For every legal question he chose a hadith that could be practiced upon — hence the title 'Sunan', connected to applied jurisprudence.
Samples from the book
من كان يؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر فليقل خيرًا أو ليصمت
