Nabi Musa Shrine
On the Jerusalem–Jericho road, Palestine

A Mamluk mosque and shrine associated with the Prophet Moses (peace be upon him), erected by Sultan Qalawun after the judges of Jerusalem reported the site. It became the gathering point of the great annual Nabi Musa festival.
Story & history
Sultan al-Nasir Muhammad ibn Qalawun ordered the shrine, minaret, cistern and lodgings built, with permanent services attached, so it became an annual destination for processions from Jerusalem each spring. Ottoman travellers described it as among the finest buildings of Palestine outside Jerusalem, and its ribbed structure still stands in view of every traveller on the road.
