Dome of the Rock
Jerusalem, Palestine

The most beautiful surviving Umayyad building, standing over the blessed rock linked to the Prophet's ﷺ Ascension. Its golden dome and Umayyad mosaics make it one of the most beautiful structures in the world.
Story & history
Built by Abd al-Malik between 66–72 AH with unique golden mosaics; Suleiman the Magnificent re-tiled it in turquoise, and its gilded dome remains the city's highest image.
