Mosque of Amr ibn al-As
Fustat, Cairo, Egypt

The first mosque in Egypt and all of Africa, and the seed of Egypt's first Islamic capital. Its successive expansions turned it into a living museum of Islamic architecture across the ages.
Story & history
Amr ibn al-As built it at Fustat — the first mosque of Egypt and Africa; Ubaydallah ibn al-Habhab and Muhammad ibn Tulun enlarged it until it was famed as the "Crown of the Mosques" where scholars gathered.
