Does Islam contradict science?

Short answerThere is no conflict between Islam and empirical science. The Quran calls for reflection on the universe and raises the rank of the learned, and the sciences flourished in Islamic civilisation for centuries. The Quran is a book of guidance, not an experimental science text, and matters of the unseen are taken from revelation.

The Quran’s call to knowledge

Quran

Is one who is devoutly obedient during periods of the night, prostrating and standing [in prayer], fearing the Hereafter and hoping for the mercy of his Lord, [like one who does not]? Say, "Are those who know equal to those who do not know?" Only they will remember [who are] people of understanding.

Az-Zumar 39:9
Quran

Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding - Who remember Allāh while standing or sitting or [lying] on their sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth, [saying], "Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You [above such a thing]; then protect us from the punishment of the Fire.

Ali 'Imran 3:190–191

History

Islamic civilisation produced scholars such as Ibn al-Haytham in optics, al-Khwarizmi in algebra, Ibn Sina in medicine and al-Biruni, who saw scientific inquiry as worship and reflection on Allah’s creation.

Some scholars see scientific allusions in the Quran, while others caution against tying the text to changing theories; the safer view is that the Quran is a book of guidance.
