La Giralda of Seville
Seville, Spain

The minaret of the Great Mosque of Seville — the most famous Maghrebi minaret in Spain, sister to the Hassan Tower of Rabat. From its top the sun sets over the roofs of Seville.
Story & history
The Almohads built it as the minaret of Seville's great mosque about 1184; the Castilians added the church belfry crowned by the turning statue, and it remains Seville's highest landmark.
