Surah Al-Humazah (The Traducer)

سُورَةُ الهمزة

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. وَيۡلٞ لِّكُلِّ هُمَزَةٖ لُّمَزَةٍ ﴿١﴾

   104:1 Woe to every scorner and mocker

2. ٱلَّذِي جَمَعَ مَالٗا وَعَدَّدَهُۥ ﴿٢﴾

   104:2 Who collects wealth and [continuously] counts it.[1987]

   Notes

   [1987] Rather than spending in the way of Allāh.

3. يَحۡسَبُ أَنَّ مَالَهُۥٓ أَخۡلَدَهُۥ ﴿٣﴾

   104:3 He thinks that his wealth will make him immortal.

4. كَلَّاۖ لَيُنۢبَذَنَّ فِي ٱلۡحُطَمَةِ ﴿٤﴾

   104:4 No! He will surely be thrown into the Crusher.[1988]

   Notes

   [1988] i.e., Hellfire, which crushes and destroys all that enters it.

5. وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡحُطَمَةُ ﴿٥﴾

   104:5 And what can make you know what is the Crusher?

6. نَارُ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡمُوقَدَةُ ﴿٦﴾

   104:6 It is the fire of Allāh, [eternally] fueled,

7. ٱلَّتِي تَطَّلِعُ عَلَى ٱلۡأَفۡـِٔدَةِ ﴿٧﴾

   104:7 Which mounts directed at the hearts.[1989]

   Notes

   [1989] Covering them and penetrating them.

8. إِنَّهَا عَلَيۡهِم مُّؤۡصَدَةٞ ﴿٨﴾

   104:8 Indeed, it [i.e., Hellfire] will be closed down upon them

9. فِي عَمَدٖ مُّمَدَّدَةِۭ ﴿٩﴾

   104:9 In extended columns.[1990]

   Notes

   [1990] Interpreted to be either columns of fire or columns of iron to which are chained the inmates of Hell.
